Output 4: Assessment standards and Recognition

Output four includes:

  1. Assessment Standards Framework and Pedagogical Strategy. Using a comprehensive range of research and practice evidence including ongoing investigation with colleagues within and across partner institutions, drawing on guidance from national learning and teaching associations (e.g. Advance HE, UK; EUA, EURASHE, EAHEA, ENQA), and using policy guidance from UK and European sector we will produce a set of generic assessment standards for the higher education sector. These will be iteratively developed and trialled with teams, to ensure suitability to local contexts and potential for use at national/international levels. The use of the EAT Framework and ongoing investigative research with colleagues is an essential aspect of this work, along with trialling and developing in ongoing discussions with all those engaged in assessment practices from individual lecturer to PVC/Vice Principal Education within HEIs, and professional recognition accrediting bodies.

  2. Digital Badges. We will use a research-informed approach to develop an assessment awards structure to acknowledge attainment of assessment competencies – (e.g., specialist at individual, team, and expert levels (strategic development of assessment). We will also look to engage students in the process and ensure awards are available for staff and students. We will draw on all the project resources and specifically the Assessment Standards Framework. The aim is to work with partners and relevant organisations to support trailing and adoption of standards. A key part of this work will be in working with professional bodies and senior academic staff within and across HEIs to inform the development, and recognition of the award structure. We intend to work with European and National Bodies to support recognition of the rewards framework. Both sets of work will involve comprehensive discussion with colleagues within HEIs, including senior management and national learning and teaching bodies.
